Re: M3 Festival information
This is the hotel closest to the venue - staggering distance. No driving necessary.

Even though I only live 30 miles away, I'm going to book a room there. It's also where the bands stay.

Ed, I can mail you the money and you can buy me a ticket, or if you'll get me a ticket I can just give you the money in person at the airport when I pick you up Sunday for MR Fest II. Just let me know.

We'll figure it out. MR Fest II is now in the works. Working on flights out of Raleigh on that Sunday morning if not Saturday night.

I tried to book a room today at the Sheraton and it's all sold out, no rooms available for June 18th & 19th!
Re: M3 Festival information
They had them earlier in the week. Thought that it might sell out there.
Oh well, there are plenty of places close by, just none THAT close. The Hilton is only a mile or two away.

Re: M3 Festival information
Simple alternative.
My house friday night. I can drive to the show on Saturday morning. Use the Hilton as a flop house post show on Saturday so no one has to drive anywhere.
Or I will get my wife to just drive.
Still going to keep an eye out for rooms to open up in the Sheraton between now and June. I'm pretty sure there will be cancellations within that time.

This one doesn't, but Andrew is absolutely correct about Sucklahoma and their modern acts this year. MR 2 is a much better alternative that weekend for people like us. However that doesn't mean the Rocklahoma promoters are making a mistake. It's probably the right business model if that festival is to continue long term.
M3 is the major Hard Rock/Hair Metal Festival in the states this year though. It's going to draw 15,000 in one day.

Re: M3 Festival information
I have two problems with Andrew's show from a visitor's perspective (which I'm not). Mind you, these are not problems *I* have with the show.
First, there are no seats. I'm in good enough shape to stand both days for prolonged periods of time, but that's gonna be a motherfucker on a lot of people. Imagine if you really want to see all of the acts. You're looking at 20+ hours of standing over a two day period. That's tough, man.
My second problem is the show's itinerary. Say you're traveling from out of state. The itinerary leaves you virtually no time to visit Chicago. If you arrive Friday afternoon and want to see the VIP acoustic show, the show Saturday and the show Sunday you're left with zero time to see Chicago unless you take another day off and do so on Thursday or Monday. But then you've used 3 vacation days from work and that's asking a lot! The majority of people are coming in on Friday afternoon and leaving Monday morning ... which means no time to visit the city.
I think it would have been better to have Saturday's show stripped down a bit and better from a quality standpoint and run from 6 to midnight/1 am ... leaving people all day to see the city. But that's just me. I'd be bummed if this were in LA or New York and I was left with virtually no time to see either city. But I also acknowledge what an immense undertaking organizing this show must have been and I think Andrew did a pretty good job. I give him an 82 out of a hundred.
