What is the main reason that record sales are declining?

I'd say bad talent (same old stuff over and over), as well as the advent of the MP3.

I think it is all of the above. you can't pick just one reason as to why.

I'm guilty of not buying like I used to, but I still pick up important ones (to me) even if I've scored a copy some other way.

I voted other... adults dont by cds as much anymore just your favorites... as we are more picky about what we like now... remember as kids we got everything we could get our hands on... from the monkees to the beattles to all the teen idols just as the little kids do now... the teens though now go online and try and get the stuff free....

Re: Poll...yes a poll.....
I would agree that the buying power has changed drastically, but I also think alot of other factors play into this.
There are probably less than 5 out there today that have the staying power or more yet the fan base to hang on as long as singers/groups from the 70's and 80's. The talent is lacking and they will put anything out, no matter the quality for fame and money.
It used to be your only as good as your last release - now it is release as much as you can, it doesn't matter what it sounds like.

I think there are so many different ways to get whatever music trips your trigger...people just aren't as interested in getting anything permanent

In a nutshell...Forums, nobody has time to listen to music anymore, they're all too busy posting in online forums. On a personal note my music spend is on the increase apple get a regular amount off me each month. Just downloaded Bruce's track from the Wrestler and the Kings of Leon.....some good shit out there!
