That's not really fair, as the package tours make sense but the answer is Red13

Re: The last time??
My point with the question is that some people are talking about attendance at Juhnee shows now. Who's to say that most of that audience isn't there to see Night Ranger, or Foreigner or Styx?? Those other bands have a die hard fan base too, believe it or not. lol

Re: The last time??
Let see:
Styx UK - minimal following, that's why they started sharing gigs after the first solo tour that was played out to half empty venues over here
Journey/Foreigner - it'll be close between these two in the UK. Foreigner will probably in my opinion be the pull on this tour - hope they head the bill to be honest

Re: The last time??
Oh...the UK is a different ballgame. I know Styx isn't very popular there, so I was mainly talking about the US.

Re: The last time??
It's like the usual - who give a flying fuck about the UK kinda response
Styx over your place has the added problem of a split fan base which doesn't help. Deyoung takes a certain percentage away from Tommy's gigs

That's also very true. I must admit, when DeYoung was canned I didn't want to see them. Still am KINDA like that, but they speak English. LMAO

I was the opposite - Shaw for me any day but I'm coming round the Deyoung again. It was just his influence on caught in the act and the broadway stint. Got to admit that stupid fuckin Roboto play on stage was pretty bad.

Re: The last time??
Oh God yea. And that was my first concert. Thank God I was 3 and don't really remember it. lol
But aside from Mr. Roboto and First Time, his influence is missed.
The Broadway stuff is still there, when ya think about it. More Love For The Money.
REALLY sappy ballads are still there too. Yes I Can
So Tommy and JY's "Complaints" about DDY are kinda Moot.

Re: The last time??
Night Ranger, while an excellent band, has no following. If they played alone, I would expect about 1,000 to 1,500 people to show up. Foreigner, they fare better, but not by much. I would say that, out and touring alone, they would probably fetch 2-4 thousand. Journey, as I've witnessed at Charter One Pavillion in Chicago, can sellout the place and it holds around 8 thousand. The thing is, the packages just make so much more sense for all bands. It gets the fan who's on the "fence" to go. Think of a commercial on a rock station for this tour ... "Night Ranger, Foreigner and Journey, together on July 30th." Then they roll into 10 second clips of You Can Still Rock In America, Don't Tell Me You Love me, Sentimental Street, Sister Christian, Cold As Ice, Juke Box Hero, I Wanna Know What Love Is, Urgent, Double Vision, Don't Stop Believin', Any Way You Want It, Faithfully and Separate Ways. Peoiple are gonna say ... "Fuck yeah, man! I'm in!"
And the best part about it is that Joe Concertgoer can sit on the lawn for as cheap as $14 in some places, but usually about $20-$25 in most. And that's a killer deal for over 4 hours of music.
I bet this bill sells out in Chicago and that would mean a tad over 30 thousand. With Cheap Trick and Heart, they drew 26,000 in a rain storm.

Re: The last time??
........so it's only ever gonna be the hits and there's no issue with that, except the band stagnates rather than progresses. However with certain bands from the 80's there's really nothing left to give as they're dated and so far out of the modern day loop, they're pretty must irrelevant when it comes to 2011.
They are concerts you'd go to if there's nothing better on - a time filler and a catch up with friends, music content is minimal.

Re: The last time??
That's what I love about Rush. They don't have a certain "Hits package" that they HAVE to play. They do whatever the hell they want. LOL

Re: The last time??
Well, I think Journey has shown that they're willing to play the maximum amount of new music before the fans get uptight about it. They played 4 new songs at virtually every show on the Revelation tour, and they played 5 new songs and 1 Revelation song in their first gig this year. I think playing 4-6 songs by the new incarnation in about as much as one could ask for.

That's true, a hits package could be more of a hindrance than asset!

Yup. They yanked Closer To The Heart out of the set for all the US dates on the Vapor Trails tour. They had been playing that since '77.

You know if Tommy said - we're just playing the Carrot album only..I'd kiss his feet. That would be a fuckin great concert

Zero disagreement with what Dan said.
I get that.
Just will always feel that Juh-nee are Glee/American Idol crap now but he makes a good point.
