The day from hell Empty The day from hell

Post by Ed Mon Jun 13, 2011 7:23 pm

My wife has been complaining of headaches for 3 days and went to Patient First this morning. Blood pressure was elevated so they sent her to the ER. Her mom died from an
aneurysm, so because of family history she is undergoing a spinal tap (save the band jokes).

Not a good day.

Well after 9 hours at the ER yesterday we got no answers. Because of the headaches and my wife's family history they did an MRI (negative) and a lumbar puncture/spinal tap. She's in a lot of pain from that.

Taking off work today and driving her to see her primary care physician at 9:45 this morning.

Wifey's BP has dropped back to normal. White blood cell count still elevated but I think she's going to be a ok.

Thanks all. Smile

And it gets worse. The headaches continued and she's back in the hospital getting a blood patch procedure to try and stop them. Another long needle into the spine.

Shocked

Bugger. Have they stuck high explosives to her yet? I always found it somewhat ironic that having nitroglycerine stuck to your skin brought blood pressure down rapidly instead of the other way around.

Hopefully everything will be fine, and they'll quickly work out what the problem is (and how to fix it).

They did a blood patch on her last night where they drew blood and injected it into her spine to stop the spinal fluid from leaking. Chatted with Behshad on facebook about it earlier today.

The procedure stopped the headaches. Now she just has a sore back from the needles.
