Scorpions/Night Ranger last night

Damn Ed, that's an awesome set! I LOVE Rhythm Of Love and Wind Of Change. They've got some awesome songs, and they're one of the few bands that I haven't seen. I wonder if they're coming down in this area? I'll have to check out their tour schedule, because if they are... I'm THERE! Thanks for posting this.

Night Ranger setlist

Take out Crazy Train and throw in Sentimental Street or Secret Of My Success, and you have a perfect set list. I'd still give it a B+, though. Lay It On Me is a great live song.

Night Ranger

Very stark diference seeing Night Ranger with very little room last night. As Dan knows, they had recently played the exact same venue at the M3 Festival a few months ago as a co-headliner with plenty of room to move around. Their M3 show WAS the best show I had seen all summer (more on that later). As an opening act they still delivered. I knew going in there would be no way that could best or even equal their M3 Festival performance though. Limited time and limited stage, but they made the most of what they had last night. Sound problems were evident in the first 2 songs, but whoever their sound guys are did a great job of getting the mix cleared up.

Night Ranger: B (woud have been a B+ but points off for the initial sound issues)

Scorpions:

The last time the Scorpions played this venue was a previous M3 Festival 3 years ago when this farewell tour started. That night Klaus Meine was sick, they cut the show short and put in only a decent performance. Fast forward though now to last night.

Right from the first note, the sound system was mint perfect. They had way more energy, and Klaus sounded ridiculously good (he's 64 years old). Big highlight was them going off the standard setlist and playing "In Trance". Great setlist, although not perfect. Couldn't argue it. They were on fire all night and take the crown for the best show I've seen all summer, edging out their opening act's spectacular set from back in May.

Scorpions: A+

Great review, Ed. Probably 2 of the top 5 best live rock acts in the world, and they were billed together. Kudos to the promoter for hitting a homerun.

The reason Night Ranger only did this one date is that the Scorpions tour was originally scheduled to end the night before in Philly so Tesla wasn't available. The promoter was able to secure Night Ranger to do this one off show.

Night Ranger, Journey and the Scorpions should have been the bill last year for the Eclipse tour. Journey makes horrendous decisions, in that regard. They needed a crowd that is open to new music, and the Scorpions fans do that in spades. But what did they do? They went and got Foreigner, a band that plays no new music. Just a really bad decision.
