ProgRocker's Prog Corner
Alright ladies and boys, check it out. This is a thread dedicated to all types of progressive rock: Dream Theater, Rush, Porcupine Tree, Radiohead, Pink Floyd... you name it... early Journey and Styx, Triumph, Camel, whatever. Prog metal, post-rock, symphonic... let's talk.
I'll kick things off by talking about 2008's releases. I haven't caught up on very many new albums so far this year, period, including in the Melodic Rock scene. So what are the hot new prog albums out there? The only 2008 prog albums I've checked out have been Asia's new one... and Lukather's disc has some very proggy moments. I know Fish, Mars Volta, and a few others have dropped records recently. Give a brief review and a */10 rating, let us know what you think. I know Rush has a new live album out, I'll probably nab that once I have the bones needed.
2007 was a solid year... best album from last year would have to be Porcupine Tree's In Absentia, though Radiohead came close with In Rainbows. Rush's Snakes & Arrows is up there too.

Psychedelic Furs.
My fave.
And I know you probably hate them, the Ramones.
They were political and sarcastic as hell - no one really noticed that part!!

I actually have never listened to the Ramones so I can't judge them too much.
What's a good album to start with for them, as well as the Furs?

Neither group is together anymore.
The Ramones started poking fun at top forty and no song was over 2 minutes. It's amazing what you can get in in 2 minutes if you put your mind to it.
Since most of them have passed on now, it can't hurt to start with the Ramones "Greatest Hits"
The following are classics
I Wanna Be Sedated
Rock and Roll High School
Blitzkreig Bop
Sheena is a Punk Rocker
As for the Furs (who were pre-SexPistols) - their first album in 1988 "All of this and Nothing" featured:
Love My Way (one of the first vids on MTV)
Imitation of Christ
President Gas
Heartbreak Beat
and how can we ever forget Pretty in Pink
Hope you enjoy.

Re: ProgRocker's Prog Corner
I think I'm the only person that loved T4E and Vapor Trails and didn't like Snakes And Arrows. I tried with S&A, I really did...just didn't do it for me.

I think so too! Alot of Rush fans I've spoken to LOVE S&A but aren't too fond of the two previous releases.
T4E was... MEH... and VT I thought was very good.

"One of these days" translates to a year from now, so he should really just keep enjoying his Rush musicBehshad wrote:ProgRocker,,,,, until you have listened to EVERGREY, you should change your name to ProgNoob....
