25 years ago today, my childhood football team - The BALTIMORE Colts left town. A cowardly act by a horrible owner and a drunk. For those who do not know the story, Bob Irsay purchased the Colts in 1972. A proud franchise with the greatest attendance record in the NFL at the time. What did this man do once he got control of the team? He nuked it. Trading Johnny Unitas - arguably the greatest QB in NFL history was disgusting. 1 year after a Super Bowl victory over Dallas, the franchise went into a cesspool of losing. There was one brief oasis from 75-77 where the Colts were pretty good, but Irsay ruined that too, and got drunk at Memorial Stadium and actually started calling plays.

He eventually started shopping the team and had the Colts play exhibition games in Jacksonville and Phoenix before sneaking the team out in the middle of the night in Mayflower vans. As a kid I wouldn't have cared. However Indy fans a losers because - you should have demanded that at least the franchise should change their name. Indy 500's, Indy Racers, anything. The Colts name has to do with the Preakness and Maryland racing. Memorial Stadium was built in the shape of a horseshoe. C O L T S = Baltimore. Don't dare claim our history. Johnny Unitas HATED anything refering to the Indianopolis Colts. That is a total fraud and is stolen.

As for Cleveland - shut the fuck up you bottle throwing idiots. Baltimore was very uncomfortable acquiring your franchise. When the Colts moved we did not have ESPN or the internet to lobby for keeping our history. You got your team back with all records, logos and everything else in tact. Had your city not wasted money on a bullshit Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and taken care of Modell it wouldn't have ever happened. Ditto for the government in the city of Baltimore who botched things much in the same way.

In 2009, The Baltimore Ravens have healed the wounds and brought the Lombardi trophy to the city of Baltimore. In every way shape and form they are the legacy of the Baltimore Colts in a different uniform. Baltiore, Cleveland and Indianapolis are all the better for it. But that Horseshoe is OUR's. Make your own history. Fuck David Letterman, Indianapolis and Peyton Manning.
