I had to say NO. Takes up too much space to store, and a lot less flexibility in listening.

Fuck Yea
The raw, live sound of vinyl beats the digitalized sound of cd any given day.
Add to this the large cover art with big inserts and lyrics etc, and you have a winner.....

One of the songs that truly showed the difference on the audio on vinyl vs cd was my 7" single of "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica. When you listened to that on a good sound system, you could almost feel the presence of Lars Ulrich on a corner of the room playing the drums......

Definately.

To me, the sound is much warmer.

CDs are flat sounding to me. Sure, I can play it louder, greater volume so that more air space is filled.

However, that does not necessarily make it better.

Now I know all the self-proclaimed experts and geniuses (we are so lucky to be surrounded by so many) will disagree with me.

It goes further than just the sound.

Albums required a team, a family, to produce from A-Z

Just like it takes a village to raise a child, in my opinion it takes a label to produce a quality product that can be enjoyed by the masses.

Ok, ok - I know - the labels got greedy in recent years and became (as I refer to them in another thread) bottom feeders.

They promoted the young and clueless - to the young and clueless - just to make a buck - no real investments. The took advantage of the artists, musicians and the consumer.

My favorite example of artist/musician rip off is the Cheap trick/Allman Bros vs Sony regarding royalties for electronic downloads and sales.

It seems that Sony was deducting the cost of packaging materials and shipping and handling as they do for regular sales - except that there is no packaging or shipping in the electronic downloads.

While it is common practice for a label to hold a percentage of royalties in reserve to offset returns, there are no returns in the electronic genre.

Don Ienner was a real boy wonder that turned into another selfish total putz on that one. He and Michelle Anthony are no longer employed at Sony.

With cds an artist/muscian (and there is a vast difference) does not need a label for guidance/promotion - it is all done with their best gut feelings and word of mouth.

But those decisions can be clouded easily by outside sources and perhaps the best decisions are not made.

It's like me taking out my own appendix. Stupid.

JDK (John Kalodner) was instumental in getting the Toxic Twins (Steve Tyler and Joe Perry) and the rest of Aerosmith into rehab. they had started working on a new album and JDK realized they were not even concious.

After they were sober for a while JDK made them sit in a room and listen to what they had instisted was their best work ever. They were appalled - asked that the tapes be destroyed and for the opportunity to prove themselves again.

Sorry to droan on so long, but Deano you hit one of my hot spots.Heheheh

Even tho I really believe that everyone deserves a chance to follow their dreams, "NO" not everyone is a star, or a writer, or a musician, or dancer.

Sometimes they need someone to tell them that - and that is where a label can be of assistance.

A good label - not one that has a producer like Rick Rubin who is strictly formula and doesn't even listen to the music personally - can also support and promote in ways the artist hasn't thought of.

So yes I miss LPs, the sound and every bit of talent, creativity it took to get them from the original writing into my hot little paws.

P.S. I finally found a place where I felt I could speak about the things with which I am familiar without facing the potential beatdown. Cool Thanks, Deano.

I miss the sound and sweetly stuffed album sleeves.
Parted with most of my 2000+ collection back in the early 90's
Sadly it makes me sometimes but I don't stew over it long as
they took up so much space.
This was one of my photo filled faves.....

Hey, streetcars were killed off and have since returned. Maybe LP's can make a limited comeback.

I've never heard a vinyl album that sounds as good as any decently mastered CD or SACD, DVD audio, etc.

Duh. I don't think you had a choice. TBF probably wasn't available on LP or cassette for that matter.
