Christmas plans?
The coolest thing about Christmas is taking my daughter to my dad's house for the annual Christmas party. My uncle, who played Santa Claus for me when I was a little kid is still doing it (and plays the part as well as ever). Amazing for me at age 42 to see my daughter getting presents from the same Santa I had at her age in 1972.

Re: Christmas plans?
Ian, most of my immediate family lives within 15 minutes drive from my house. Very convenient and I never have to travel far on holidays. I'm pretty lucky where that's concerned.
Now what SUCKS, is that my father is impossible to buy for. He has zero hobbies, isn't into gadgets or sports memorabilia and doesn't want to us buy him clothes so the fucker gets a gift card from us every year.

My parents are the same way! My Dad is a retired scientist, and he's very well off. There's nothing that he needs or wants. Same with my Mother. I found that the best thing I could do was win over their stomachs! For the last 3 years, I've gone to www.figis.com and ordered them big varieties of meats and cheeses. The cool thing is that every year, they have friends over, so they use what I send them as snacks for guests. I usually spend about $80-$100 on each of them each year and it's delivered right to their doors. They love it!
Something I do for my Mom's Birthday each year, is hook her up with dinner. I make arrangements at an awesome local pizza place where she lives, and tell her to take however many friends she wants to dinner. They call me at the end of her party and I pick up the tab. She LOVES it. We live 3000 miles apart, so it's hard for me to do anything else. Hope these ideas help! Have a great Christmas.
Re: Christmas plans?
I always get my old man a good bottle of Malt from a great place in Glasgow - I'm up there to choose this years tomorrow - they come up for Christmas so I always help him taste it. Strange this year because I've used most of the money I had from parents to keep my business a float - thought this would be a better idea than going through Christmas thinking about the bills in Jan. I ordered in three books by Michael J Fox so that'll keep me happy.
To be honest most of our money goes on our son - he's a great kid and isn't a 'I want this' type.
Christmas needs to be more of a simple celebration to be honest, it's pains me to say this but I kinda don't like the inconvenience of it all now

You're lucky, my family are all over the place but usually one set stays with us each year - 3 days is normally long enough though

Re: Christmas plans?
Food wouldn't be a bad idea Jim. Might try that next year - thanks!
Ian, I wish I could buy mad dad liquor. He doesn't really drink. No fun at all. I should get a DNA test and see if our neighborhood postman from 1968 bears any resemblence to me.
