Upcoming new CD releases?
Any new CD's coming out that you are looking forward to?
For me it's got to be the new Ace Frehley CD on September 15th.
Kiss also follows with their first CD since 1998.
Right now the new Cheap Trick release "The Latest" is on top of my iPod charts. I don't think the hard copy is released yet, but I can't wait to get a real copy.

Re: Upcoming new CD releases?
I was really looking forward to the new Dream Theater album, Black Clouds and Silver Linings. Good effort from them, even though 6 (mostly long) songs, regardless of the overall length, makes me feel like it's not really a true album.
Other than that, man... I've really hit a musical dry spell so far this year. Just not a lot that I've heard recently has wowed me and don't really know a whole hell of a lot that interests me that's on the horizon. Besides the lack of albums, I'm also experiencing a HUGE dry spell in concerts - the only shows I've seen are Frontiers and Billy Joel/Elton John, both in May. Typically, I've been to at least 6, usually 8+ shows by the fourth of July. Sucks. In fact, I only have two shows on the calendar right now between now and October - Bachman/Cummings in CA in August and Porcupine Tree in September. Fuckin shitty economy is killing concerts.
I've been getting my musical rocks off pickin up new concert DVDs more than anything so far this summer... just watched Hall & Oates Live At The Troubador 2008, what a great DVD.

It's a good effort, took some time for me to get A Nightmare To Remember and Count Of Tuscany, but I like the album now. I just wish there were at least 8 songs - even with 5 of the 6 being over 8 minutes, 6 songs just feels too short to me.
Also, they have gotten excessively cheesy these days with lyrical themes and what not. I mean, prog bands known for instrumental virtuosity and crazy concept albums aren't generally known for powerful lyrics, but they've had some good ones in the past. Even the cheese before wasn't quite as laugh-inducing (eg. the fantasy/monster lyrics of the last two albums). I hope they get away from that next time as much as possible. Lyrics aren't that important to me - they only stand out when they are really good or really bad. Unfortunately, the latter's been the case with Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds. I also hope they don't try so hard to live up to being a pure, badass metal band, which they've been trying to do since Roadrunner signed them.
Oh well, a very good album nonetheless. Petrucci is awesome as expected, Portnoy sounds more inspired than he has at least in 4 years, and Rudess cut back on the annoying shit as much as he could be expected to. I like.
