My daughter has H1N1
Not much we can do. 104.7 fever, which has dropped to 101.9. Constant contact with her pediatrician and he said it is flooding his office. She's too young for the anti-viral medication so it just has to run it's course. Plenty of fluids and tylenol.
She is very alert and the doctor is actually more worried about my wife who has asthma.

Jeremey's little Quinn has it too. It's running rampant. 13 kids home from my daughter's daycare. A little scary, but we are doing what the pediatrician says to do.
I almost did not go to see Kiss last night because of this and was willing to give up my ticket for tonight. The doctor said to continue normal activities and my daughter is still laughing and pleasant. We wanted to take her to the ER but were advised against it. Her temp is dropping, so we are a lot more relaxed than a few hours ago.

She will feel better soon surely. It's never fun to see a little one be in pain from an illness, but H1N1 is majorly overblown. For a humorous take, check out

Great amusing read. Thanks for sending that. I feel the same way, but the wife is understandably shook up. I just showed her that and it had her laughing.

If you've never seen that site before, take a while and read some of the articles. The guy is hilarious. His older stuff is golden. He doesn't update much any more, but man, he was a classic going back a while...

I agree with him on the iphone as well. People with that phone that run around touting it should be beaten with aluminum baseball bats.

The iPhone is superior to that POS Nokia
And everything he talked about in his comparison chart has been "fixed" by Apple the past 2 years

I mean, let me put this in context, I just recently graduated college... picture a bunch of 20~22 yr old buffoons running around surfing the web, constantly texting on that stupid ass touch screen, and constantly "checking" their e-mail as if they have something important to read like someone with an actual job. Some of those applications are downright fuckin stupid too.
"DUDE! I CAN PLAY GUITAR HERO ON MY iPhone!"
"DUDE! I PUT ALL MY TEXTBOOKS ON MY iPhone!"
"DUDE! I'M GONNA READ A 1050 PAGE NOVEL BY TOM CLANCY.... on my iPhone!"
Fuckin dumb. A phone's not meant to do everything. A neat piece of technology? Yes. A ridiculous amount of hype and overextension of its functional purpose? Undoubtedly. E-mail is cool and all if you really need it that badly and yeah I guess checking sports scores here and there is ok too... hell most of it is okay. It's just the fools who can't resist whipping the thing out to do 100000 things. One of my good buds has one and he can't stay off the fuckin thing, it's gotten to the point where I can barely put up with bein around him.

Re: My daughter has H1N1
I mean I get so annoyed with people's rudeness of cell phones, especially since my generation is among the worst at it on account that they've pretty much always been there for us. The iPhone takes all the reasons people are rude and discourteous about their phones and exacerbates it that much more because of its functionality.

Re: My daughter has H1N1
I can see where it becomes annoying with people in your age group around you acting like 12 year olds ,,,,,
for me it's the convenience of having everything in one place. I can use it to make very cheap calls to my family in sweden,,,, I can capture quick videos & pics of my kids and send them to my parents and my siblings in Sweden,,,,, I can check the weather and time for different locations instantly ,,,,,, I can access WTF & MR and keep up to date when away from a Computer.
I can also use it to excersise while using my Nike+ shoes. Of course listening to all my albums,,,,
Add to that Youtube & Navigation anytime you need it , plus emails and Internet and it is a useful device.
I also like how I can use this $5 program called Orb ,,, which gives me access to all my tv channels on the go,,,, I can watch , record , pause my reciever from anywhere ,,, I'm a gadget man ,,, I like technology,,, and those people around me who say they just need the phone to make phone calls are 60-90 years old

Yeah yeah. I guess for me if I want to watch YouTube and check e-mail I'm never far from a computer and I'd much rather watch a video on a decent-sized screen and I already have an iPod, so I just want a phone. Maybe I'm really 60

Re: My daughter has H1N1
My son most likely has this flu too. They screened him yesterday and he tested positive fir influenza A. All of my kids had the flu shot several weeks ago, so from what I understand, they are lumping all influenza A positive tests as H1N1 this year if they have been vaccinated based on the tracking of it I guess. There would be no way to know for sure unless they sent it off for viral testing, which peds aren't doing. There is no reason to know for sure which flu it is because once you have it you treat it like any other flu anyway. You watch for signs of it worsening like ANY flu.
My son has a history of asthma, so they gave me tamiflu for him since I had him there within the 48 hours. One of my daughters most likely has a milder case, but she's had it for more days and she seems to be doing better with it than my son. I was told if my 10 year old gets it, they won't give her tamiflu. They are only prescribing it for high risk patients. Which is smart because it will keep the supply up for those who really need it.
My pediatrician talked to me a little about the seasonal flu shots and she said something that makes sense but I never thought about. The flu shot is cummulative. So if you get it each year, and it's year the mix is a little different, then you are protecting yourself if a strain is missing from the shot one year, but it happened to be in a previous year.
And there is a different strain of H1N1 in this years regular flu shot. I am curious to see if it has helped to maybe allow for some to have a weakened version of the newer strain. My son's fevers are not that high. Around 101. And his achiness was only one day. Our problem that worries me with ANY flu or cold with him is the respiratory crap because of his asthma tendancy.
Anyway, I am annoyed by the media frenzy and panic going on. I think it is causing a lot of undo stress to the peds offices. People don't understand and I blame the news media for a lot of misinterpretation and gatherng of opinions and not facts. No one likes to see their kid sick. I've seen him this sick before. But knowing what can happen, I will be faster at getting him help if I see the slightest change. I really think a lot of people wait to seek care. They don't realize how fast pneumonia can develop and kill. I have a friend whose mom in her 60's died from a flu about 5 years ago. She didn't seek care as quickly as she should have. ANY flu can kill. And they do.
Just my 2 cents!! Hope your daughter gets well soon Ed!

Re: My daughter has H1N1
Lynn, I hope your son gets through this as quick as possible. I agree with you about all the hysteria. No need to panic about it as it is really no worse than the usual strain of flu.
My office though doesn't want me to come in the rest of the week. Guess they think I'm a carrier or something.

Thanks Ed. And that's just the kind of hysteria the media perpetuates! It's ridiculous to make you sit home when you are healthy! And of course, knowing it's in your house, if you started symptoms, you would never go to work. That's just crazy for them to be that worried. My pediatrician told my son he just joined 50% of the population. There is no running from this. They're not going to control it that way. I feel bad my one healthy child will probably get it. We are being careful in the house, but with all of the coughing, I don't see how she will be spared, but I hope she is!

Re: My daughter has H1N1
I'm getting tired of hearing about this pseudo-plague on the fucking news every 9 seconds. If I were president everyone over 7 would be forcefully injected with this H1N1 bullshit and we'd have a nice, friendly national game of "Survivor."

Re: My daughter has H1N1
The media is the most dangerous thing in this country today, make no bones about it.
I'm waiting for the Cleveland Plain Dealer Web site to fix a broken story, but it looks like from the headline they are going to have a story about how the unnecessary hysteria over this thing is putting a huge strain on ERs. I will post the link when it is fixed, as of now it's broken.
